Joell Ortiz was born on July 6th, 1980 to Puerto Rican parents in the East Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York and was formerly signed to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment label. Ortiz was featured in the Unsigned Hype column in the March 2004 of The Source Magazine and was even selected as Chairman’s Choice in XXL Magazine. Around that time Ortiz also went on to win the 2004 EA Sports battle, which earned his song “Mean Business” a spot on the NBA Live 2005 soundtrack. In that same year, Ortiz was offered a contract to Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Label. Kanye West reveals track list for upcoming album

Just after midnight on Monday morning (January 25th), West posted a photo to Twitter of a handwritten track listing for his album Swish…which he has now re-titled to be Waves. “So happy to be finished with the best album of all time,” he tweeted. While some of the handwriting is a bit difficult to read, the 10 song tracklist does feature a few previously heard tracks. “Real Friends” and “No More Parties In L.A.” will be included on the new album, but their guest features (Ty Dolla $ign and Kendrick Lamar) are not detailed in the photo. The Vic Mensa and Sia partnership, “Wolves” is also included despite being premiered last year at West’s New York Fashion Week debut. B.o.B. believes the world is flat

The rapper, B.o.B. has been on Twitter since Sunday evening, sharing his conspiracy theory with fans. He posted a photo to Twitter challenging the widely held belief that the earth is round writing, “The cities in the background are approx. 16 miles apart… where is the curve ? please explain this.” From there, he went on to post other photos and theories that work to to disprove the scientific notion. “No matter how high in elevation you are… the horizon is always eye level … sorry cadets… I didn’t wanna believe it either” he wrote. Meek Mill donates 60,000 bottles of water to Flint, Michigan

Flint, Michigan is currently in crisis and if you’ve been following the news you know that residents are up in arms over the corrosive and lead-filled water in their sinks. The situation in Flint is so dire that they’ve declared a state of emergency. Governor Rick Snyder said in his State of the State address that he, and the local government has failed the residents in Flint. According to TMZ, Meek Mill, a Philadelphia native, has donated roughly 60,000 bottles of water to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan on top of giving money to the Flint Child and Family Health Development Fund. The donations apparently have nothing to do with the court ordered community service the rapper is carrying out as a result of his most recent parole violation. Kanye West releases new song with Kendrick Lamar

After Kim Kardashian updated fans about last week's G.O.O.D. Friday drop, informing everyone that a flight to Italy prevented Kanye from releasing his second installment, Yeezy came through on Monday morning (Jan. 18) with the official audio for "No More Parties In LA" featuring Kendrick Lamar. The song had initially been teased two weeks ago, when Kanye came out with "Real Friends" featuring Ty Dolla $ign. The track was produced by Madlib, while it's believed to have originated from Yeezy's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy sessions in 2009/2010. Madlib mentioned in a previous interview that he gave Kanye five beats for his album, and a documentary reveals part of what is evidently Kanye's verse here. Albuquerque-based emcee Wake Self pays homage to his favorite classic hip-hop albums in an incredible new video for the track "Still Love Her" from his upcoming album, Malala. The intro features J Dilla's mother Ma Dukes telling listeners to "educate yourself/be about it," then fades into Wake Self injecting titles and lyrics of revered hip-hop classics into the track.
