Bone Thugs-n-Harmony's Old Stomping Grounds To Be Renamed "Bone Thugs-n-Harmony Way"

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony will be in Cleveland on Friday (August 11), where the intersection of E. 99th Street and St. Clair Avenue will be renamed to “Bone Thugs-n-Harmony Way." Organized by the Spread the Love Foundation, Cleveland City Councilman Anthony Hairston and Ward 10, the street-naming ceremony takes place from noon to 2 p.m. local time.

Following the street-naming ceremony, Bone Thugs is expected to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later that evening. On Saturday (August 12), the group will hit the stage during the Glenville Festival at Sam Miller Park before joining LL COOL J’s The F.O.R.C.E. Tour at the Rocket Mortgage Field House.

dead prez's First Album In 11 Years Features Black Thought

dead prez hasn't released an album since 2012's Information Age, but that's about to change. On Wednesday (June 21), dead prez MC stic announced their upcoming project comes with a collaboration with The Roots' Black Thought.

He made the reveal via Instagram, writing, "Ya heard? Spread the word! New @deadprez x @blackthought on the way! #albummode #deadprez." He included a photo of himself, fellow dead prez member M-1 and Black Thought who appear to be posted up at a studio.

Black Thought is decades into his career but seems more prolific than ever. In addition to his regular gig with The Roots in the house band for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he's been pumping out albums like a machine. In 2022, he released the gorgeously layered Cheat Codes

Bay Area Hip Hop Archives Announce Boots Riley, RBL Posse + Digital Underground Among 2023 Inductees

The Bay Area Archives has announced its second class of inductees for 2023. The induction ceremony takes place on August 11—Hip Hop's official birthday—at The Oakland Museum of California. According to a press release, a giant roster of influential Bay Area figures are to be inducted, including Digital Underground, RBL Posse, The Coup's Boots Riley and Conscious Daughters. Additional inductees are: dance originators Medea Sikas, 2Pac's longtime friend Ray Luv, Hip Hop photojournalist Keba Konte, writer Adisa Banjoko, DJ CJ Flash, DJ True Justice, DJ Shortkut and many more.

Living Legends' Luckyiam Shuts Down Rumors Of Shooting At Leimert Park Juneteenth Event

Juneteenth celebrations were rampant in the United States on Monday (June 19). At Leimert Park in Los Angeles, R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan was expected to headline an annual Juneteenth music festival, but she canceled at the last minute. According to Fox 3 Now, rumors of shots fired started making the rounds right before her set. Out of fear for her safety, Sullivan pulled the plug. 

But Living Legends MC Luckyiam is setting the record straight. Shortly after the rumors made the rounds, he took to Twitter to say, "THERE WAS NO SHOOTING IN LEIMERT PARK JUNETEENTH. A VENDOR TENT FELL AND EVERYONE STARTED RUNNING.  (Please Stop spreading false narratives)." 

A woman posted a video under his post claiming otherwise, but Lucky replied, "Cap."

Biz Markie Documentary To Premiere At Tribeca Film Festival

Biz Markie died at a Maryland hospital on July 16, 2021, several months after being admitted for diabetes-related complications. As news of his death spread online, the Hip Hop community came out in droves to pay their respects.

On Friday (June 16), his widow, Tara, paid tribute online with an Instagram post that included video of Biz Markie DJing at an outside party. She also plugged the Just A Friend Foundation and confirmed a documentary about Biz Markie’s life, All Up in the Biz, will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday (June 17).

Kool Keith Returns With Long-Awaited "Black Elvis 2" Sequel

Kool Keith has returned with Black Elvis 2, the long-awaited sequel to 1999’s original. The 16-track project dives into the mind of one of Kool Keith’s most famous alter egos, Black Elvis. One of the album highlights, “Kindergarten Adults,” came together following an off-night at a show. As Kool Keith explained, he and fellow Ultramagnetic MC Ced Gee had a show scheduled, but COVID-19 restrictions prevented Ced Gee from getting into the venue. Kool Keith was then tasked with putting a solo set together.
