Freddie Gibbs And Madlib Prep "Bandana" Album

Freddie Gibbs and veteran producer Madlib's upcoming collaborative album, Bandana, is inching closer to fruition. Details have been relatively scarce up until now.

During an interview with German magazine JUICE, Gibbs revealed the laundry list of guests appearing on the follow-up to 2014's Piñata. 

He mentioned "legends" Yasiin Bey, Anderson .Paak, Killer Mike and Pusha T contributed to the album, pointing out Mike and Pusha appear on one particular track together. Gibbs appeared grateful he was able to work with “guys who I have respect for, and who respect me too.”

Although a definitive release date hasn't been set, RCA is expected to drop it sometime in May.

Cypress Hill Receives Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Cypress Hill had a major reason to celebrate on Thursday (April 18). The legendary Hip Hop group — comprised of B-Real, Sen Dogg, Eric Bobo and DJ Muggs — were presented with their star on the iconic Hollywood Walk Of Fame. 

Xzibit and George Lopez were on hand as special guest speakers. 

During the ceremony, B-Real spoke about how much the symbolic gesture meant to him, especially when considering they are the first Latino-American Hip Hop group ever to receive the honor. 

DJ Muggs added, "They said we wasn't gonna get a record deal. Who's got the last laugh now homeboy? They said we was crazy for trying to legalize marijuana. Look at us now, homeboy."

Nipsey Hussle Murdered In Los Angeles

The hip-hop community is reeling after Los Angeles-based rapper Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot outside of his Los Angeles clothing store on Sunday afternoon (March 31). 

Although he was rushed to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after he arrived. According to CNN, a high-ranking law enforcement official with the LAPD confirmed the news. 

Two other men were injured during the shooting but are listed in stable condition. The suspect reportedly fled on foot. 

Nipsey's Facebook page says he was "a devout member of the Rolling Sixty Crips," a national street gang founded in L.A. around the mid-1970s. Many people are speculating his gang life finally caught up with him.

Pete Rock's "Return Of The SP1200" Instrumental Album Arrives Next Month

Pete Rock has announced the release date for the Return Of The SP1200 instrumentals album. On Wednesday (March 20), Rock hit Instagram and revealed the release date for the project is April 12.

In the caption, the seasoned beatsmith shouted out The Beat Junkies' J. Rocc who provides scratches on the upcoming project. 

"Im super excited about this project cuz its old beats that still sound heavy," he wrote. "Jamie Staub did such a wonderful job mixing, Jrocc my other soul brotha from anotha motha and sanford green former marvel artist of black panther & Luke Cage! Wanted that “spiderverse” feel 4/12."

Big Boi's 2019 Dungeon Family Reunion Tour Kicks Off Next Month

Big Boi is hitting the road with Goodie Mob, Organized Noize, Sleepy Brown and K.P. The Great as part of The Dungeon Family Reunion Tour. The Outkast luminary announced the short run last month. 

The tour kicks off on April 14 at the House Of Blues in Chicago and wraps up on April 27 in Asheville, North Carolina.


In January, Daddy Fat Sax acquired Rico Wade's home, which once housed The Dungeon Studio. OutKast, Goodie Mob and several other artists recorded some of their earliest music in the Wade family basement throughout the 90s. 

Although André 3000 won't be included on the bill, CeeLo Green will be on deck with his fellow Goodie Mob members.

Rhymesayers MC Sa-Roc, dead prez, J. Period and Maimouna Youssef have united for the new single, "Soldiers." The song serves as the inaugural single from J. Period’s The RISE UP Project.

Executive produced by J, Young Guru, DJ Khalil and DJ Jazzy Jeff, the compilation features a diverse selection of actors, activists and musicians, including Black Thought, Posdnuos, Pharoahe Monch, Jesse Williams, Aloe Blacc, Andra Day, Joss Stone and Rhymefest. 

The RISE UP Project is expected to arrive on March 15. 

 J. Period recently recruited dead prez and Mumu Fresh for a performance of his "Hip Hop" remix at The Kennedy Center.
