MCSKILL THAPREACHA: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THIS WEEKS SPOTLIGHT ARTIST

Rapper and writer MCskill ThaPreacha (Real name: Olawale Aremo) took the time to connect with RAPstation for an exclusive interview. He is currently based in Nigeria and as you will read, faces his own challenges with being in a country where Hip Hop is “unstable.” Rapping and writing for some time now, it wasn’t until  2010 that he returned and officially entered the Hip Hop scene. After the release of his first mixtape, “Metaphysical Induction,” and positive feedback gave fuel to his drive of releasing another mixtape a year after. Today, he is working on his latest album “Diary of a Supernatural” and his latest project “Beats and Rhymes.”<

Danny Brown certainly has a few things up his sleeves for 2016. Thus far, he's premiered a documentary on his first hometown performance in years, and he's released “When It Rain,” his new single that manages to be simultaneously bewildering and hypnotic. Just yesterday, however, Danny Brown gave us another glimpse into what he has in store for the year when he announced his new album, Atrocity Exhibition, and the dates for the country-wide tour in support of this hotly-anticipated album. The album's title is inspired by a song from post-punk band Joy Division's 1980 album, Closer.

Brown's last album, Old, came out in 2013, and it featured guest appearances from Freddie Gibbs, Ab-Soul, Schoolbo

DJ Khaled's upcoming Major Key album features some of the biggest artists in hip and hop and R&B, including Jay Z, Drake, and Chance the Rapper, but today DJ Khaled took to Snapchat to specifically call attention to Kendrick Lamar's contribution to the album.

“Kendrick Lamar went so hard,” DJ Khaled said in a Snapchat video “His verse I feel like is gonna be one of the most talked about verses. Also, I wanna be super clear. I got this Big Sean verse. Aw man, it’s so crazy.”

In addition to the previously mentioned artists, Major Key will also feature Kanye West, Ty Dolla Sign, Future, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and more.

Genre defying singer-songwriter Torii Wolf has released the second track off of her upcoming album Flow Riiot, which once again features production from the legendary DJ Premier.

“Shadows Crawl” is the only track I did not specifically create for Torii’s album” DJ Premier told Vibe.  “I made it for Yuna’s new album, but she went for the second demo... When we finished recording Torii’s debut, Flow Riiot, I felt like we needed one more song and I played her this beat.  Torii wrote “Shadows Crawl” on the spot and cut the vocals."

Despite weather conditions that were less than ideal, the Brooklyn Hip Hop festival wrapped up another successful year this Saturday. The event opened up with a series of panel discussions presented by both the Hip Hop Institute and the Medgar Evans College English Department. Black Lives Matter activist Deray Mckesson served as the keynote speaker for the discussion, and she gave a stirring talk on the realities facing the country during this time of social upheaval.

Killer Mike of Run the Jewels proposed a new method of protest following the high profile deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile: if the system doesn't respect black lives then it shouldn't get black money. Mike encouraged people to pull their money out of accounts run by multinational corporations and into black owned banks, and estimates suggest that Killer Mikes "Bank Black" idea has already moved a lot of money.

Citizens Trust, the black owned, Atlanta-based bank mentioned specifically by Killer Mike when he first proposed the "Bank Black" initiative, says they've received 8,000 new accounts in the last five days. Since new accounts require an initial deposit of at least $100, that means that at least $800,000 has been moved away from
