Spotlight Artist: Monsta Kodi
In the 70 though the 90’s, Hip-hop gained massive recognition as an underground movement rallying thousands against societal issues through means of ground-shaking beats and cutting-edge rhymes. In modern times, many have critiqued it under commercial persuasion to the point of “losing its agenda”.
There are, however, a remarkable few who have remained within the movement, and there stands no artist as radical as Monsta Kodi.
Born in Harlem, raised in the Bronx, Monsta Kodi ranked prominence with his distinct activist-induced artistry, much significantly through his hit-single “No More Killin”, a song tracing its roots off the tragic Mike Brown shooting gunned by Ferguson, Missouri police forces.

Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo, a.k.a. Carlos Walker, lost his life tragically last night at the age of 40 after a devastating hit and run car accident early this morning.
Shawty Lo was best known as one of the founding members of hip hop group DL4, who scored a number one hit with their 2005 single "Laffy Taffy." In addition to his work with DL4, Shawty Lo scored a solo gold-selling single with "Dey Know." In 2008, he was named "Rookie of the Year" at the BET Hip Hop Awards. He appeared on the Billboard charts again with Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy in 2009 on the hit single "Gucci Bandanna." His second solo album, entitled Still Got Units, was scheduled to come out sometime later this year.

Reportedly Guwop’s favorite date, the album is scheduled to debut on October 17, marking only three months since the release of his critically-acclaimed post-prison debut, Everybody Looking, which premiered at #2 off the US Billboard 200, accomplishing Guwop’s highest-charting album.

Beyonce and Jay Z have announced that they will be headlining a Tidal sponsored charity concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Bey and Jay will be joined by fellow Tidal artist Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and Lauryn Hill. Proceeds from the concert will be given to The Robin Hood Foundation, a non profit group dedicated to improving the life of New York City's poverty-stricken residents by funding food kitchens, schools, and job training programs.
Tickets for the event start at just fifty dollars, which is surprisingly low given the popularity of the acts involved.
The concert will see Jay Z making good on a promise he made at Tidal's first charity concert last year, when he promised that the show would become an annual event.
