The team-up of JSOUL and Wordsworth introduced fans to their latest single, “Blame It On The Music”, which is also the title track to their upcoming album scheduled to debut on September 23rd under HiPNOTT Records. The song expresses the eMC rapper’s refusal to uphold hiphop culture as a supposed cause behind societal maladies.
“Police are steady hunting men/ your back they put a dozen in / behind you running plates and they putting numbers in / Suffering, Democrats, Republicans they governing / Politicians not to help but for wealth they run again.” Wordsworth dishes out several issues inherent in today’s culture, dynamically building up to their controversial refrain, “Blame it on the music”.
The track ends with Wordsworth’s defiant statements regarding the connection between hiphop and system failures, challenging the accusations being targeted at both the music and its culture: “Some might argue that the content of our music serves as poison to the mind of our generation / Drugs, violence, sexism, and the criminal element were long here before hiphop / This capitalistic trend was not created nor introduced by hiphop / It’s been here, it is the American way”.
Talking about the project, Wordsworth explained that they synthesized such a song “because it [seemed] like the music is another excuse for society… Instead of healthy dialogue just blame the culture of the youth”. The rapper interestingly highlighted JSOUL’s diverse characteristic mingled into his beats, then mentioned that “HiPNOTT Records represents quality and integrity of music… It’s a home for artists’ and producers’ creativity but a movement of motivation”.
