Last April Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco announced that he was in the process of creating three brand new albums, all of which were supposed to be released before the end of 2016. Today, Fiasco announced that due to mixing and legal issues, the release of all three albums will be shelved until at least 2017.
"It's a strong chance you wont get any new Lupe albums this year," Lupe announced on Twitter. "Sorry y'all. I tried 2 make it happen but best laid plans make a mess made."
The trilogy of new albums, entitled Drogas, Drogas Light, and Skulls, were supposed to be the final studio albums by the "Kick Push" rapper. The first two parts of Fiasco's finale trilogy, Drogas and Drogas Light, have been completed and their release is being held up by legal clearances regarding the samples used and mixing issues. "Drogas Light & Drogas are fully recorded & sitting but clearances and mixing issues for Drogas are pushing us beyond realistic deadlines now," Fiasco said.
Despite the delay, Fiasco has still managed to keep himself extremely busy lately, as the rapper will still be embarking on a nationwide tour (where he will reportedly be playing some of the new material that's part of his new albums,) that will keep him busy until the end of the year. Lupe Fiasco's previous studio album, Tetsuo & Youth, as well as the Egyptian themed concept mixtape Pharoah Height, were both released in 2015. Fiasco released a single, "Pick Up The Phone," earlier this year, and also took part in video game company Capcom's promotional tour for the game Street Fighter V (a game that has its fair share of hip hop artists among its fans,) where Fiasco got the attention of video game nerds everywhere by defeating Japanese Street Fighter champ Daigo Umehara in a match.
