In a world of music rampant with excess bling and binge digital sounds, Gensu Dean's organic sounds provide the perfect throwback to the good ol' analog days, “nasty, funk 'em up raw, a return to all things scrunch face good,” all of this manifests in Dean's forthcoming album, aptly-entitled, RAW.
Scheduled to drop on November 25, the album lists appearances from a myriad of guest artists, such as Roc Marciano, Homeboy Sandman, Red Pill, Planet Asia, and J-Live. Dean, however, allows a glimpse to what's coming with this three-week pre-released single, “Principles & Codes”, which features none other than D.I.T.C.'s legendary Diamond D donning the mantle behind the mic—and let's face it, these two about to take us back to school with this one...
“Hard drums, dope groove, and ill bar from my man Diamond was the main ingredient for this joint,” mentions Dean to Mass Appeal, “It set the tone and standard for the rest of my album, and thus, had to be the jump off.”
Sure enough, the track jumps off to Dean's organ sample setting the stage wherein Diamond D personifies Hip-hop time-master, taking us back to the 80's with his razor-sharp lines pierce through Dean's organic sounds. It's the closest in Hip-hop we've been to having a flux-capacitated Delorean of our own, but if you don't find me at all convincing, then check out the song for yourself here.
