Killer Mike took his latest solo single "Run" to "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Friday (October 7). The theatrical performance began with a spoken word intro before the Run The Jewels MC invited New York City to "go to church."
"Run," Mike's first solo single since 2012's "R.A.P. Music," was initially teased in an ad for Cadillac Escalade starring Killer Mike and his wife Shana Render. It officially arrived on the Fourth of July alongside a video featuring additional vocals from Dave Chappelle and Young Thug.
Speaking to RAPstation's Kyle Eustice at the time, Mike explained why he wanted to released it on Independence Day.
"The Fourth of July celebrates the founding of this Republic and the rejection of British tyranny through taxation,” he said. “And the first person to die in the name of this great Republic was a man named Crispus Attucks, who was a son of an African father and a native mother, which by the one drop rule makes him a Black man.
“The first person to die on the behalf of America was a free Black man. True history is Crispus Attucks died for this country first. True history is if it had not been for cheap and free labor in the South, this country would not have become an economic dominator on the world stage in only 246 years. I wanted to make sure that was known on the day we celebrate this Republic.”
During Mike's sit-down with Jimmy Fallon, he further expounded on the track and talked about his recent cameo on the show "Ozark." He also encouraged everyone to register to vote so their voices can be heard in the upcoming mid-term elections. Watch the performance and interview below.
