De La Soul embraces their status as hip hop kings with "Royalty Capes"

De La Soul have been in the hip hop game for almost three decades now, and while the band plays modest in regards to their legacy and influence on hip hop history, they slyly acknowledge their place as rap legends in their newest song, "Royalty Capes."

You can listen to "Royalty Capes" here.

"We are so flattered but we’ve never worn the ‘Legendary’ hat comfortably when placed on our heads. What we value is our creative reputation and the lineage of our careers," Dave, a.k.a. Plug Too told Fader. "Gracefully we’ve stepped forward for decades with high standard and respect…We don’t wear hats, we wear Royalty Capes.”

The triumphant track is the latest song to be released from De La Soul's upcoming And The Anonymous Nobody album, which will also feature collaborations with David Byrne, Usher, 2 Chainz, and more. The band released another track from the album, the funky "Pain," featuring Snoop Dogg, earlier this year.
