Chance the Rapper is continuing his empowerment of independent artists, this time with a novel way to get his songs played on the radio. He's currently asking fans to help him get his songs heard on the radio by enlisting the help of Twitter and a website he's created called RapperRadio.com. Fans are able to go onto the website, designate their city and then specify whether they want to hear “No Problem” or “Summer Friends” on the radio. The site will then tweet the local radio stations with the song requests.
“I want you to share my music in whatever city you’re in with as many people as possible,” Chance the Rappers recently wrote in an Instagram post. “The radio is like a huge listening party for people of all demographics to get in tune. In those moments it’s mad ppl in harmony. This will require your twitter and will take place over the next few weeks. It has phases so I’ll keep tweaking it but let’s take over! RapperRadio.com LETS BRING INDEPENDENT MUSIC TO RADIO TOGETHER.”
So far, this radio airtime campaign seems to be successful, as fans have been sharing video clips of themselves listening to tracks from Chance's album Coloring Book on their local hip hop radio stations. In addition to this recent campaign, Chance the Rapper also figured prominently in getting the Grammys to consider mixtapes when doling out award nominations. Furthermore, he was the first artist to chart on Billboard's top 200 without any traditional album sales.
