RAPstation.com ALBUM REVIEW: Big Remo "Sleepwalkers"
(released on 5/29/2012 Jamla Records)
"Sleepwalkers" is the latest album released from the Raleigh, NC native and underground rap extraordinaire Big Remo, protégé of acclaimed producer and DJ, 9th Wonder. With this, his third release on the Jamla Records label (the brain child of 9th Wonder), "Sleepwalkers" features an array of mood filled beats, picture painting rhymes, and a great lineup of special guests, including the hip hop gods Sadat X of Brand Nubian and Bun B of UGK, as well as other great artists like Halo, Rapsody & 9th Wonder himself.
The beats throughout the whole album are stellar. 9th Wonder, The Soul Council, and The Sleepwalkers provide intoxicating and classic sounding cuts that make you want to cruise the city on a warm summers evening, with the windows down and the radio turned up...classic!
From the first track "They Gon' Hate", a haunting and dramatic beat that is the perfect companion to Big Remo's gritty raps, to the mellow driven flows on "Swiss Cheese", this album does NOT disappoint. Big Remo's rhymes skills and story-esque lyrics really shine on tracks like "You Know", "Malcolm X", and "Ain’t Nuthin'" featuring a verse from GQ.
The album only amazes more with tracks like "Good Day" featuring Sadat X, and the title track "Sleepwalkers". Big Remo truly deserves an A+ for this future classic album and I highly recommend adding it to your collection.
